How to make your financial records bank-ready in Ghana

1. Reconcile every financial account

Start by matching the accounting records to bank statements, mobile-money wallets and cash records. Investigate unexplained differences and document corrections. Lenders need statements that are internally consistent; unreconciled balances create avoidable questions.

2. Explain exactly what the funding will achieve

State the amount required, how it will be used and the commercial result you expect. Separate productive uses—such as inventory, equipment or working capital—from unrelated owner spending. Connect each use to a realistic source of repayment.

3. Build a cash forecast you can defend

Prepare monthly sales, cost and cash-flow projections using assumptions grounded in recent trading evidence. Include timing: profitable sales can still create cash pressure when customers pay late or stock must be purchased early.

Supporting information to prepare

Bring recent financial statements, bank and mobile-money statements, receivables and payables schedules, tax and registration records, major contracts, identification documents and a short explanation of unusual movements. Requirements differ by lender, so confirm the bank’s current checklist directly.

Three actions to take this week

Reconcile all operating accounts; write a one-page funding-purpose and repayment note; and test your forecast against a slower-sales or delayed-payment scenario.

Know what to improve first
